Hayward Police, Castro Valley CHP Team Up to Crackdown on Carpool Violations
Police officials say officers issued 241 citations and towed 6 vehicles during the enforcement detail.

Announcement submitted by CHP:
During the morning commute of March 26th 2015, allied police agencies which included: CHP-Hayward, CHP Castro Valley, Alameda County Sheriff’s Office, Alameda PD, San Leandro PD, Hayward PD, Union City PD and Newark PD, teamed up in the east bay to suppress motorists utilizing the carpool lane unlawfully. The allied agencies worked together targeting on and off ramps of Interstate 880 as well as the # 1 lanes that are designated for carpool use during posted hours and days.
Law enforcement officers issued 241 citations and towed 6 vehicles within a few hours. An additional investigation is being conducted regarding a vehicle that fled a traffic stop from an officer during the operation.

Motorists are reminded to pay attention to road signs whether they are in a familiar area or not. The CHP receives numerous complaints regarding the unlawful use of the carpool lane daily. Remember, leave a few extra minutes early to avoid the temptation of slipping in the carpool lane because the fines can be steep and your driving record is at risk. Stay safe, designate a sober driver and keep your eyes on the roadway ahead.
