Morning Commute, Warriors Celebration Jam BART

BAY AREA — BART officials say they've put every available train into service to accommodate fans headed to the Golden State Warriors championship parade in downtown Oakland this morning, but there have still been service impacts on daily commuters.

There were 119,092 passengers who had exited BART stations by 9 a.m., 7,787 more than had done so by this time last Tuesday. That total is down though 12,202 from the day of last year's Warriors parade.

The Warriors on Friday won their second-straight NBA championship, sweeping the Cleveland Cavaliers 4-0.

The transit agency has been actively responding to complaints regarding delays on social media this morning, saying that additional employees have been stationed at busy downtown Oakland stations in anticipation of roughly a half-million riders expected today.

Police activity at the Lafayette station led to a 20-minute delay this morning, but that situation has reportedly been resolved.

BART officials have also asked passengers to remember to avoid forcing train doors open while boarding at the station, as that can require a train to be taken out of service.

For anyone driving to a BART station, agency officials say most of their parking lots are now only open to drivers with a parking permit, but as of 9:15 a.m. there was still some room at the San Bruno and Millbrae stations.
