
FREMONT, CA — That troublesome slide area at mile marker 8.73 on Palomares Road will be attacked by road crews trying to shore it up once-and-for-all.
Beginning Wednesday, April 5, Palomares Road will close to thru traffic between Niles Canyon Road in Fremont and Palo Verde Road in Castro Valley. The road will be impassable at mile marker 8.73.
This closure is expected to last through this Friday, May 5.

Specifically, contractors will emove hazards including loose dirt, rocks and debris from the hillside. Once the debris has been removed, the work crews will install safety measures to stabilize the hillside to prevent further movement.
Motorists, cyclists and pedestrians are advised to use alternate routes.

Since the roadway will be fully closed at mile marker 8.73, residents on either side of the closure will need to access their homes from either Palo Verde Road or Niles Canyon Road as appropriate.
