Teens who usually skate at the two Hayward skate parks also showed up, pooling together $10 so that one of their friends could pay the entry fee to compete.

According to Ferguson, more than 30 teens and adults competed in the event, each doing two-minute solo runs through the park. The ones who landed the most tricks took home prizes that included skateboards, wheels and various skate accesories and gear.

Among the winners were Union City residents and skate park regulars Andy Ho, 14, who finished second in the ages 11 to 15 bracket, and Adrian Pacis, 16, who ended second for the ages 16 and up group.
