Suspect Fatally Shot By Officers After Car Chase; Officer Injured
Two other suspects, all wearing ski masks, were arrested following the early Monday pursuit.

CASTRO VALLEY, CA — One suspect was fatally shot by law enforcement officers and two others were arrested early Monday after a pursuit in Alameda County near San Leandro.
About 2 a.m., a crash was reported at 163rd Avenue and Liberty Street in the unincorporated Ashland neighborhood, and people were seen running from a 2015 Hyundai, according to Alameda County sheriff's spokesperson Lt. Tya Modeste.
Sheriff's officials said initially that deputies who responded found a California Highway Patrol officer on the ground struggling with two suspects.

Monday afternoon, Modeste said that only one suspect was fighting with the CHP officer shortly after a deputy arrived. The other complied with law enforcement commands and got on the ground.
A third suspect ran away when the deputy approached and gave commands.

The suspect fighting with the CHP officer was assaulting him and trying to take the officer's gun, and then shots were fired by both the CHP officer and the sheriff's deputy, Modeste said.
The CHP officer, who was taken to a hospital afterward, said the suspects' car blew passed him on eastbound Interstate Highway 580 and he tried to catch up, but the vehicle eventually took the 164th Avenue exit and crashed, according to Modeste.
The suspects, who were all wearing ski masks, fled after the crash. When the CHP officer caught up to them, the fight ensued.
Eventually, the other suspect was taken into custody using a drone, which picked up a heat source, Modeste said. The suspect surrendered to authorities.
A fourth suspect was also arrested when law enforcement stopped to ask the person questions about the case. Law enforcement later determined the Hyundai was stolen out of Hayward, Modeste said.
The CHP officer assaulted by the suspect has since been released from the hospital.
