No Charges Filed In Tom Arnold And Mark Burnett Brawl

CENTURY CITY, CA – Los Angeles city prosecutors declined to file criminal charges, citing insufficient evidence, over an alleged scuffle between actor Tom Arnold and producer Mark Burnett during a pre-Emmy Awards charity event in Century City.

A spokesman for the City Attorney's Office said prosecutors on Wednesday officially declined to pursue a case. Arnold filed a police report in mid-September, alleging he was assaulted by Burnett during the Sept. 16 event.

The altercation allegedly occurred at a fundraiser for the Motion Picture Television Fund at the Lawn at Century Park, and concerned Arnold's ongoing attempts to locate allegedly damaging tapes of President Donald Trump from Trump's years on the NBC reality show "The Apprentice," which Burnett produced.

Arnold tweeted that Burnett choked him and then "ran away with his torn Pink shirt & missing gold chain."

Burnett's wife, actress Roma Downey, countered with her own Twitter post, including a photo that showed a bruise on a hand.

"Got this bruise tonight when Tom Arnold tried to ambush my husband Mark and me at a charity event. Is your TV show worth it Tom? Please stop," Downey tweeted.

Downey was referring to Arnold's new show, "The Hunt For The Trump Tapes," which premiered that week on Viceland.

Arnold issued a statement Thursday saying that despite the lack of any criminal charges, he plans to seek damages against Burnett.

"There were several witnesses who corroborated what he did to me that evening," Arnold said. "The police department informed me that witnesses were reluctant to come forward against Mark Burnett because he is a powerful man, but that won't stop me from making sure that Mr. Burnett is held accountable for his conduct."

Burnett could not be reached for comment.
