7 Charged with Attempted Murder in Anaheim Weekend's Gang Melee

Eight people were stabbed in the brawl that started over an argument between ex-lovers.

Seven men and women were charged Tuesday with attempted murder in connection with a weekend melee in Anaheim that left eight people with stab wounds.

Jenny Reyes, 19, of Anaheim, got into an argument with her former boyfriend Saturday night and vowed to return later with her “homies,” Anaheim police Sgt. Daron Wyatt alleged.

Reyes and the ex-boyfriend, whose name was not released, are members of gangs, but not rival sets, according to Wyatt.

He said police were called to the 400 block of Sycamore Street about 1:20 a.m. and found eight stabbing victims at the scene -- five females and three males. None of their wounds were considered life-threatening, he said.

Two of the stabbing victims are female juveniles, one is a 45-year-old man and the others are in their late teens to early 20s, Wyatt said.

As police rushed to the crime scene, an officer made a traffic stop at Lincoln Avenue and East Street, Wyatt said, and the suspects were taken into custody without incident.

Reyes and her co-defendants -- Jose Luis Segura, 21, Nancy Cervantes Rodriguez, 24, Diana Ruby Ruiz, 22, Tony Alexander Ayala, 20, Joseph Ayala, 17, and Gabriela Chocoteco, 19 -- are all charged with attempted murder, conspiracy to commit a crime, and street terrorism.

The Anaheim residents also face a sentencing enhancement of premeditated attempted murder.
