Crash Prompts Calls for Change at Claremont Intersection
Two people were seriously injured at the intersection of Baseline Road and Padua Avenue. Residents say it was inevitable as the intersection has long been a problem.

As Claremont Police investigators continue to sort out what caused a crash on Baseline Road and Padua Avenue in Claremont, residents have begun raising concerns over the safety of the intersection.
A number of residents took to Keeping the GOOD in Our Neighborhood Facebook's page to express concerns over the intersection. Some felt it very dangerous for any driver. The neighborhood group, also known as KGNH, is a group of residents who work together toward the good of the neighborhood by keeping locals informed on events and incidents.
“I live off Padua but I avoid that intersection as much as possible,” wrote a Facebook commenter Marla Abrolat. “A colleague of mine's wife died there and I'm sure I see an accident there at least once a month.”

The most recent crash at the intersection happened between a sedan and an SUV about 11:20 a.m. Saturday April 6. The sedan was heading east on Baseline and the Tahoe was westbound on Baseline, when the Tahoe's driver went to turn south on Monte Vista, Claremont Police Lt. Jason Walters said.
The impact trapped a woman in the car. She was extricated and flown to USC trauma center, he said.

A man in the Chevy Tahoe was also injured and taken to a hospital by ambulance, Walters said.
One KGNH follower, Mark Sterb wrote he had already reached out City Manager Tony Ramos and a city engineer.
“Each corner has a right turn only except Padua south,” Sterba wrote. “All the lights have left turn ok on red with a short arrow, this MUST be changed.”
