American Meat is a solutions-oriented macroscopic documentary surveying the current state of the U.S. meat industry. It explains how America arrived at our current industrial system, and shows the feedlots and confinement houses, not through hidden cameras but through the eyes of the farmers who live and work there. It then shifts to the current revolution developing in animal husbandry, telling the stories of several farmers and entrepreneurs who have made the transition to grass-based farms.
This local food event is co-sponsored by Sustainable Claremont, the Environmental Analysis Program at the Claremont Colleges, the Elemental Arts Initiative of Pomona College, Californians for Local Food, the Growing Home, Bust Out of the Bubble, and the Incredible Edible Community Garden, as well as the Cal Poly Pomona Food Justice Club.
The panel discussion that follows the screening will feature the director, Graham Meriwether, grass-fed meat producers, Dave and Heather Fikel, and CSA farmer, Randy Bekendam.
Doors will open at 6:30 pm for those who would like to meet with any of several of the local food organizations who will be represented there.
