What Role Will Votes From Claremont Play in the Outcome of the 27th Congressional District Race?
About 1-in-10 voters for the 27th Congressional district are residents of Claremont, and candidates are budgeting their time and money accordingly.

Patch asked two candidates who are running for the new California 27th Congressional District their perspectives on campaigning in Claremont.
Republican Jack Orswell
Although there are 16 cities in the Congressional District and Claremont represents less than 10% of all of the voters in the district, each vote is important. I want to represent the voices of all of the people in the district, and the only way to do that is to listen to local concerns and to communicate my message. We have many supporters who live in Claremont and they are making calls, delivering flyers and placing yard signs. In addition, we have mailed information to voters and made appearances in the city.

Democrat Judy Chu
I am truly looking forward to representing Claremont. I served at one time on the advisory board for the Claremont Graduate Institute, so I have some familiarity with how special Claremont is. I also taught in the Los Angeles Community College District for 20 years, so I have a great appreciation for higher education. I have also spoken at various events in Claremont. I have seen for myself that there are many active residents in Claremont, and I can see from the events that I have attended that they are also very informed. I will do as much campaigning in Claremont as I can in order to reach out to voters.
