📰 News we're reading

1. Controversial Esmeralda housing and hotel development heads to Cloverdale City Council (ukiahdailyjournal.com) — Cloverdale residents have a key chance to weigh in Wednesday night as the City Council holds a special meeting on the massive Esmeralda housing, hotel, and retail project proposed for 266 acres near Asti Road and the airport. Supporters highlight new tax revenue and amenities, while opponents worry about water, contamination, and opaque financing, with another public meeting already set for Oct. 14.

2. Incransom Claims City of Cloverdale as New Ransomware Victim, Raising Questions Over Potential Municipal Cyberattack + Video (undercodenews.com) — Cloverdale's city government has been named as a supposed ransomware victim by the Incransom group, but so far there's no confirmation of any breach, data theft, or service disruption. Officials haven't issued a statement yet, and the city website is still operating normally, so residents are urged to treat the claim as unverified while investigators look for concrete evidence.

3. Sonoma County joins local governments proclaiming local emergencies tied to El Niño (pressdemocrat.com) — Sonoma County has declared a local emergency ahead of a potentially powerful El Niño winter, following Cloverdale's own emergency declaration last month. County leaders, including Cloverdale's vice mayor and public works director, are pushing to ensure flood planning and resources cover vulnerable areas like parts of Cloverdale, not just the lower Russian River, as officials brace for uncertain but possibly severe storms.

4. prep-roundup-windsor-analy-american-canyon-stay-on-top-of-league-races-in-volleyball (modbee.com) — Cloverdale High's volleyball team edged Credo in a five-set thriller and sits atop the NCL I-South standings, while the boys soccer squad fell 3–0 to Fort Bragg. The roundup also tracks how neighboring schools like Windsor, Analy and Cardinal Newman are faring, giving Cloverdale fans a snapshot of league races as the season heats up.
