1 Dead, 4 Injured In Contra Costa Rollover Crash; DUI Suspected
The driver in the crash on state Highway 4 was arrested on suspicion of DUI and hospitalized with major injuries, the CHP said.
CONTRA COSTA COUNTY, CA — DUI is suspected to be a factor in a fatal rollover crash late Sunday night on state Highway 4 near Antioch, the California Highway Patrol said.
The crash involved one car, a blue Chrysler PT Cruiser, and was reported at 11:50 p.m. Sunday on eastbound SR-4 near state Highway 160.
CHP and additional emergency personnel found five people in the car.

The driver, a 42-year-old woman, was suffering from major, life-threatening injuries.
The front passenger, a 21-year-old man, was taken to a hospital with major injuries and was later pronounced dead at the hospital.

Three people were riding in the back seat; two were minors who suffered major injuries while the third person, a 19-year-old man, suffered minor injuries.
"Our preliminary investigation indicates the Chrysler was traveling eastbound on SR-4, at a speed yet to be determined, when the driver allowed the vehicle to veer to the right completely off the roadway," the CHP said. "The driver was arrested for suspicion of driving under the influence but ultimately released to the hospital to be treated for her injuries sustained in the collision."
CHP did not disclose the name of the driver nor of the person who died.
The investigation was continuing and CHP asked anyone who witnessed the collision or any events leading up to it, to call the CHP's Contra Costa Office in Martinez at 925-646-4980.
