Coroner IDs Boy Killed While Crossing Street in Concord

The teen, 14, was struck by a car Wednesday at the intersection of Clayton Road and Detroit Avenue.

The Contra Costa County coroner’s office today identified a 14-year-old boy who was struck and killed by a car in Concord on Wednesday as Cristopher Gonzalez-Alcantar.

Officers responded to the intersection of Clayton Road and Detroit Avenue at 6:49 a.m. Wednesday on a report of a pedestrian struck by a car, police Sgt. Ken Carlson said. Carlson said that based on witness accounts, the Concord teen was crossing Clayton Road in a crosswalk against the signal when a car traveling west struck him.

The sergeant said Gonzalez-Alcantar was initially considered to be in stable condition after being transported to John Muir Medical Center, but died sometime before 12:30 p.m.

The 45-year-old Concord driver remained at the scene and cooperated with the investigation.

She was on her way to work and drugs and alcohol do not appear to have contributed to the collision, Carlson said.
