Here are the top stories in Concord today:

  1. Concord, along with 18 other cities in Contra Costa County, is highlighted in the latest edition of Western City Magazine for winning the Helen Putnam Award for Excellence in the Intergovernmental Collaboration category. The award honors the work that Contra Costa Health has done to create a coordinated response when someone suffers a mental health crisis. Anyone, Anywhere, Anytime (A3) is the result of this coordinated effort. Congratulations on the recognition, Concord! (City of Concord, California via Facebook)
  2. Walnut Creek's Lesher Center for the Arts welcomes its new general manager, Carolyn Jackson, who has been serving in an interim capacity since the former general manager, Scott Denison, resigned in January. "Carolyn's education and experience made her the ideal candidate for this position," Walnut Creek City Manager Dan Buckshi said in a statement. "She is uniquely suited to carry our arts programming into the future, and to guide our team working at the Lesher Center." (Claycord.com)
  3. Antioch Police have made an arrest in the hit-and-run incident that occurred on September 16 and left one child dead and two others gravely injured. On October 11, 29-year-old Ray Shaqil Reeves was arrested on five charges of assault with a deadly weapon and one charge of vehicular manslaughter in the case. (East County Today)
  4. A team of three students appeared before the Lafayette City Council on September 12 to request a resolution to implement no-idling initiatives in Lafayette. The team believes this initiative will reduce emissions that contribute to climate change. It was a milestone in a four-year journey that they started back in third grade! The team is now in middle school and has come a long way as advocates for reducing emissions near schools and similar behavioral change at other locations in the city. (lamorindaweekly.com)
  5. Contra Costa County health officials reported a continued decline in the COVID-19 rates in the county to the Board of Supervisors on Wednesday. That's good news, as flu season is fast approaching. Dr. Sofe' Mekuria, the county's deputy health officer also said that Australia's flu season, which is just now coming to an end and is a good predictor of our flu season, was the worst they'd seen in five years. Hang on to those handkerchiefs, Concord! You may need them. (Claycord.com)
