National Drug Take-Back Day Is Saturday

In Concord, unused or expired medications can be dropped off at the police station during business hours Mondays through Saturdays.

CONCORD, CA – Saturday, Oct. 27 marks the Drug Enforcement Administration's 16th National Prescription Drug Take-Back Day, but in Concord, residents can dispose of unwanted or expired medications at the Concord Police Department from Monday through Saturday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. when the Community Service Desk is open.

The national event is held annually on the last Saturdays of April and October, and since it began in 2010, the DEA has collected and incinerated more than 4,982 tons of unwanted, unused, and potentially dangerous medications, officials said.

A 2016 National Survey on Drug Use and Health found 6.2 million Americans misused controlled prescription drugs -- with a majority of the medications obtained from family, friends and relatives from their kitchens, bedrooms or medicine cabinets.
