New Healthy Lifestyle Class For Those 50+ To Begin In Concord

The "Active Living Every Day" program begins in May at the senior center.

CONCORD, CA – The Concord Senior Center is offering adults, 50 years of age and older, a new way to learn the skills necessary to become and stay physically active.

Due to an instructor training grant from the National Recreation and Park Association and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, the Senior Center will offer the Active Living Every Day (ALED) program to the Concord community.

Concord is one of 46 park and recreation agencies to receive the grant, according to city officials.

“This grant from NRPA and the CDC allows us to help the older adults in our community, and adds a new way Concord residents can work to achieve a healthy lifestyle,” said Avis Connolly, Senior Center Manager.

The ALED program, with certified instructors, will be offered once a week, beginning May 3, for 12 weeks on Thursdays from 9:15 to 10:15 a.m.

The classes are suited for those interested in achieving a healthy lifestyle through moderate-intensity physical activity that fits in everyday life.

"Discoveries show that physical activity need not be strenuous to benefit health," the city said. "The ALED program emphasizes appealing alternatives to traditional fitness programs and appropriate skills to improve the overall quality of life of adults."
