CONCORD, CA — A massive power outage Monday in Concord was affecting more than 5,000 customers and may be related to the excessive heat throughout much of the Bay Area. The outage began at about 6:04 p.m., leaving 5,630 residences and businesses without electricity, according to the PG&E website. At 8:15 p.m., there was no estimated time for restoration of service for the 5,630 affected Concord customers, said PG&E Spokeswoman Karly Hernandez.

The Concord outage may be related to the hot weather Monday in Concord and much of the Bay Area, Hernandez said.

"Our crews are on scene investigating and working as quickly and safely as possible to restore service," Hernandez told Patch.
