The quickest way to get caught up on the most important things happening today in Concord.

(Patch Media)

Hello all. Jeri Karges here with your fresh copy of the Concord Daily, full of all the things you need to know about what's going on in town. Here goes...

First, today's weather:

Breezy with some sun. High: 76 Low: 57.

📢 I'm looking for business owners and marketers in Concord who want to build awareness, connect with customers and increase sales.

I have a limited number of sponsorships available to introduce our Concord Daily readers to local businesses they need to know about. If that's you, then I invite you to learn more and secure your spot now.

Here are the top five stories in Concord today:

  1. A magnitude 4.1 earthquake struck Suisun Bay, about 4 miles north of Bay Point and 6.9 miles north of Concord on Thursday, at 5:07 a.m. Social media users said they felt it in Antioch, Concord, Martinez, El Cerrito, Pinole, Rodeo, Belmont Hills, San Rafael, San Bruno, San Mateo, South San Francisco, Burlingame, Clayton, Dublin, Brentwood, Richmond Suisun City, and as far away as Santa Cruz and Sacramento. No injuries were reported. (Concord Patch)
  2. Beware! Your Concord neighbor got caught in a gift card scam. Don't let it happen to you! Tammy Geyerman of Concord was trying to find a work-at-home job so she could care for her elderly parents. She found a gig and the company interviewed her via messaging app . She never met her boss or even heard his/her voice (red flag #1). They hired her and told her they would send her a $1,900 check to buy her equipment. Then, they told her to Zelle money to a third party from that check (red flag #2). Finally, they told her to buy bitcoin gift cards with the rest of the money (red flag #3). The job was fake. That check was fake. The loss was real. (KGO-TV)
  3. Contra Costa County Library will offer free Clipper cards for use with Discover & Go reservations from June through October, while supplies last. Discover & Go is a program provided by your library that offers free and low-cost passes for museums, science centers, zoos, theaters and other cultural destinations. County residents who are library card holders and are 18 or older can submit a request for Clipper cards by clicking on the banner ad on their Discover & Go pass. (Concord Patch)
  4. Legendary classic rock acts Chicago and Brian Wilson will bring their co-headlining tour to the Concord Pavilion on June 11. Wilson will be accompanied in concert by fellow Beach Boys co-founder Al Jardine as well as Blondie Chaplin, who also was a member of the Beach Boys for a few years in the early '70s. Showtime is 7 p.m. and tickets are $35 and up, livenation.com. (East Bay Times)
  5. As claycord.com first reported last Friday, "Concord Vice-Mayor Laura Hoffmeister was arrested for driving under the influence of alcohol in Clayton on May 26, according to police." It has now come to light that the vice-mayor was initially pulled over for a different infraction - driving on the wrong side of the road! It's going to be hard to argue that she just had a couple of glasses of wine with dinner with this additional charge on the record. (Claycord.com)

From our sponsor:

Are you a Concord resident looking for an investment alternative to the stock market?

Bloomberg recently asked experts where they'd invest $100,000 right now, and many of them had the same answer: fine art.

Thinking you can't afford a Picasso? Well in 2012, Congress passed the JOBS Act, which allowed for the securitization of artwork. A company called Masterworks.io built the largest platform for buying and selling art securities. In the past, you could only buy shares of companies like Apple, but with this investing app, you can unlock this powerful investment.

Meaning, you can invest in shares of million-dollar artwork. And in uncertain times, it turns out, fine art may be a wise investment. Here's why:

  • Low correlation to stocks according to Citi
  • Contemporary art historically returns 23.2% when inflation is >3%
  • Contemporary art prices outpaced the S&P 500 by 164% (1995-2021)

To learn more, visit Masterworks.io, where Concord Daily readers can skip the waitlist.
