Here are the top five stories in Concord today:

  1. One person died in a fiery crash on I-680 Monday morning, according to the California Highway Patrol. The right-hand lane was closed on the northbound side near Concord Avenue for about 3 hours, from 4:30 to 7:30. 2. In partnership with Contra Costa County Behavioral Health Services, the Contra Costa County Office of Education received a four-year, $6 million grant from the state's Mental Health Services Oversight and Accountability Commission to support school-based mental health services. In Contra Costa County, the grant will fund a newly established Wellness in Schools Program (WISP) that will support district teams with the planning, implementation, evaluation, and continuous quality improvement of Wellness Centers and county behavioral health activities in public schools. 4. On January 28, 2022, at 3:41 P.M. the Sacramento County Sheriff's Office received multiple hold-up alarms from a jewelry business located on the 1300 block of Howe Avenue. Three men drove up in car and two exited the vehicle and approached the robbery victim at gunpoint, according to witnesses. One suspect took personal items from the victim while the other took the victim's briefcase. Unbeknownst to the suspects, the victim's cell phone was inside the briefcase and arriving deputies immediately began tracking the suspects. Reginald Philanders Soriano, 20, of Antioch, Jasoni Darien Davis, 21, of Fairfield and Keishawn Zachary Jones, 20, of Fairfield were located via the phone tracking and taken into custody without incident. The victim was unharmed. (East County Today)
  5. A Walnut Creek bomb squad was called to Live Oak High School in the City of Antioch on Monday. At approximately 7:40 am Antioch Police were called to the scene where they located a victim who was deceased. According to Antioch Police Spokesperson Darryl Saffold, it appears the victim's injuries were self-induced and possibly the result of an improvised explosive device (IED). The Antioch Police Department issued a shelter in place from F Street between West 11th to West 17th Street and the elementary schools and middle school in Antioch also went on lockdown. Police are calling the death "suspicious" and no note was located. (East County Today)

Last week, we told you about our new favorite non-alcoholic go-to — the refreshingly bitter drinks from our partners at Betera. They're chef-created from natural botanicals, lightly effervescent and worthy of life beyond "Dry January." We mentioned that their Ginger-Orange was excellent; we've since tried Elderflower-Lime and loved it as well — light and floral with the perfect amount of zing. We're converts.

Enough of you took Betera up on their 15% discount on first orders for Patch Daily readers that they've extended the offer for another week. Use PATCH15 at checkout. Highly recommended — try Betera here.
