WATCH: 'Living Parasite' Allegedly Spotted in Concord Costco Salmon
The video may make you squirm but experts say it is not uncommon to find worms in fish.

An East Bay resident posted video that was allegedly filmed at the Costco in Concord after he spotted what appeared to be a worm inside a package of Kirkland brand fresh wild sockeye salmon earlier this month.
The package is dated July 12, 2015.

According to the Sea Food Health Facts website, parasites in living organisms are fairly common and fish infested with parasites can be safely eaten if the seafood is properly cooked.
A Costco manager at the Concord store refused to comment on the salmon in the video. A Costco employee reportedly told CBS 5 KPIX the worm was likely a roundworm and that worms in seafood is not uncommon.

The Centers for Control recommends avoiding raw or undercooked fish to prevent infection from worms. Seafood fans who do become infected with the Diphyllobothrium species of parasite (tapeworms) most often found in fish can be treated with medication.
The FDA says freezing does not kill every parasite and the most prudent route to protect from infection is proper cooking. Full guidelines for safely preparing seafood found here.
