📰 News we're reading

• Navy leaders say concerns of conditions aboard the USS Abraham Lincoln are false (thecoronadonews.com) — Coronado-based aircraft carrier USS Abraham Lincoln has spent about nine months at sea, prompting local families to raise concerns about mental health, supplies, and exhaustion at a North Island town hall. Navy and Pentagon leaders are publicly disputing reports of serious problems while preparing the Coronado-based USS Theodore Roosevelt to eventually relieve the Lincoln on deployment.

• Officials Adopt Ordinance To Limit Single-Use Plastic Bottles At Events In San Diego County (patch.com) — Vista's new ordinance restricting single-use plastic water bottles at city events mirrors policies already adopted in Coronado, San Diego, Solana Beach, and Del Mar. For Coronado residents, it confirms the city is part of a growing regional push to curb plastic waste at public gatherings and on public property, especially near beaches and coastal areas.

• Murder and madness make 'Arsenic and Old Lace' a comic delight at Coronado Playhouse (coronadotimes.com) — Vista officials have approved an ordinance limiting single-use plastic water bottles at city events, following the lead of San Diego County cities including Coronado, Del Mar, and Solana Beach. Coronado residents can note that their city is already part of this regional shift away from plastic, as more municipalities consider similar rules and community education on reducing waste.
