The 27-year-old woman suffered multiple stab wounds to her upper body and was taken to a hospital where she was expected to survive.
Witnesses told reporters at the scene the man stabbed his sister repeatedly with a butcher knife in the face, neck and arms and that she ran down the street bloodied and crying for help before officers arrived. She was expected to survive, reporters said.
