📰 News we're reading

1. Why Culver City Runs on Its Own Rules Instead of LA's (fingerlakes1.com) — If you live, work, or rent in Culver City, this explainer breaks down exactly which services the city controls—from police and schools to parking permits and trash—and which belong to the county or utilities. It also warns that a "Culver City" mailing address doesn't always mean you're inside city limits, and shows how to quickly verify your address and avoid permit or parking headaches.

2. RACKED Boutique Workout Shutters, Leaving Trainers & Instructors Unpaid (culvercitycrossroads.com) — Culver City's RACKED strength studio abruptly closed on August 21, leaving local trainers like Amanda Rivas and Cory Booker without thousands of dollars in wages and clients still being charged memberships. Staff describe wiped payroll records, conflicting explanations about a failed lease, and equipment quietly removed overnight, while the studio's operators have yet to provide a payment timeline or respond to questions.

3. Kiosks Go Live at Four Locations – Interactive Digital is On (culvercitycrossroads.com) — New interactive digital kiosks are now operating on several Culver City sidewalks, including key corners along Culver and Washington boulevards. The city plans a total of 15 units to share meeting notices, transit info, local business directories, wayfinding, and emergency details, while also testing how residents and visitors actually use the new street-level screens.

4. Helix Collective and Brian Lauritzen Offer Public Broadcast Stereo (and Tea!) (culvercitycrossroads.com) — Culver City residents can plan ahead for an October 11 afternoon of live music and English tea at the Wende Museum Courtyard, featuring Helix Collective and host Brian Lauritzen. The program, supported by the City of Culver City and local arts partners, highlights beloved themes from TV and radio shows, with a tea-and-scones reception and VIP concert seating included with your donation.
