Coroner IDs Man Killed In Culver City Motel Fire

CULVER CITY, CA – Authorities identified Sunday the name of an elderly man who was fatally injured in an early morning fire at a Culver City motel. The man was identified as 81-year-old Allen Treen II, according to the Los Angeles County coroner's office, which did not have a place of residence for Treen.

The blaze, reported around 3 a.m. Wednesday, heavily damaged the Astro Motel at 3850 Sepulveda Blvd., Culver City Fire Department Battalion Chief Rob Kohlhepp said.

The fire began in one unit and Treen, occupying that room, suffered severe burns before he managed to flee the room to alert the motel staff, Kohlhepp said.

He was taken to a hospital for treatment, Kohlhepp said.

Treen was pronounced dead Wednesday night at County-USC Medical Center, according to CCFD Battalion Chief Dave Rindels.

Eighteen firefighters responded to the blaze and knocked down the fire in about 20 minutes.

The cause was under investigation.
