Culver City Shooting: SWAT Team Finds Suspect Dead

One person was shot near Flower Court​ and Lincoln​ Boulevard in Venice, police said. The suspect was found dead in Culver City.

CULVER CITY, CA — SWAT teams found a suspect dead Sunday afternoon in Culver City with what police are calling a self-inflicted gunshot wound following a morning shooting in the Venice section of Los Angeles. Sections of Washington Boulevard in Culver City had been blocked off due to police activity as residents reported hearing an LAPD helicopter as early as 8 a.m.

One person was shot near Flower Court and Lincoln Boulevard and rushed to a hospital in stable condition, police said. Officer Mike Lopez told KCBS-TV that the shooting happened around 5 a.m.

Officers later said a SWAT team entered a building and found the suspect dead inside. The coroner will definitively determine a cause of death.

"Expect a police presence for several hours as we conduct a thorough investigation," LAPD tweeted Sunday afternoon.

Police previously said Washington Boulevard was closed in both directions at Inglewood Boulevard. Further details weren't immediately available.

Photos posted on social media showed multiple police vehicles blocking off Inglewood Boulevard and Sylvester Street in a nearby residential neighborhood.
