A flavored tobacco ban goes into effect on May 15 in Culver City, officials said.
CULVER CITY, CA — A flavored tobacco ban goes into effect this month in Culver City, city officials announced. Starting May 25, all tobacco retailers, except tobacco stores, are prohibited from selling flavored tobacco products.
The flavor ban prohibits the sale of all flavored tobacco products, including flavored vaping juice/liquid items, Culver City Assistant City Attorney Heather Baker told Patch.
Tobacco stores will be prohibited from selling flavored tobacco products on Nov. 27, Baker told Patch. The flavor ban does not apply to the Hookah Lounge located in Culver City, she added.

The city council adopted the ordinance to ban flavored and menthol tobacco products in October 2019, citing the need to protect people and their health, especially children.
Many electronic cigarettes come in candy, fruit or other kid-friendly flavors, according to the Centers for Disease Control.

In 2019, 27.5 percent of high school students reported using e-cigarettes in the past 30 days—an increase from 1.5 percent in 2011.
"A majority of youth e-cigarette users report using flavored varieties, most youth e-cigarette users first start using e-cigarettes with a flavored variety, and flavors are the primary reason youth report using e-cigarettes," according to the CDC.
