Get Your Brew-On at Bru Haus

Oktoberfest in August? Why not?

If you can't wait until October to get your beer brew on, then head to West Los Angeles where you can let the festivities begin. At BRU HAUS, the groovy German-Californian beer-centric restaurant/pub, you can easily drown in the multitude of international and domestic beers that are available.

Celebrating their fifth year, it’s easy to see why this place is so popular. It’s got that progressive sports bar feeling, where you can watch a number of athletic pursuits. Bring a dozen of your pals and slide into one of the many U-shaped booths, or simply hang out at the tables, and enjoy.

We were at a loss as to where to begin so General Manager Lee Rosenberg guided us in our journey. The list of libations was daunting.

We opted for two flights of beer-one domestic and one from Germany. What a great start to a festive evening! All were unique, although I found the Coronado Imperial Blue Bridge to be quite impressive, with hints of coffee and chocolate.

What is beer without sausage, and soon the Sausage Sampler was before us, which included wild boar and alligator. The snap of the gator sent me back into my adventures in the deep South, where I was once researching my Mississippi roots. On the tamer side was the Wisconsin beer brat, with the spicy boar being my favorite.

The sampler was flanked with three delicious sides of red cabbage slaw, crispy grilled onions, and sauerkraut, although there are many other selections available.

Prior to the sausage, we jumped into an ahi adventure with the healthy Ahi Tuna Soba Salad. Loved the avocado on this. The Sweet Chili Crispy Cauli was a bit too spicy for me, but my partner, who has an ambitious palate, loved it.

We couldn't leave without at least trying the Mac ‘n Cheese, and this, along with some sausages made its way into a hefty doggy bag. Portions are large, so come hungry.

What a fun place! We love Oktoberfest, especially when it starts in August.
