📰 News we're reading

1. Closing of Plunge causes polo chaos (culvercitynews.org) — Culver City plans to close the Plunge pool for six weeks starting Dec. 19, right in the middle of Culver City High School girls' water polo season, leaving the team scrambling for practice space and home games. Players and families are urging residents to follow the issue as the City Council revisits the closure on Oct. 13, warning it could derail seasons and college recruitment hopes.

2. Police arrest repeat offender after attempted bicycle robbery at Culver Studios (westsidetoday.com) — Culver City police quickly arrested a repeat offender after he allegedly tried to forcibly steal a woman's bicycle at Culver Studios on October 5. Officers used neighborhood searches and security footage to identify the suspect, who later admitted the attempt. Authorities say his violent criminal history makes the swift arrest important for preventing more incidents near the studio area.

3. Murder charges filed against man accused of fatally shooting bus driver in Culver City (abc7.com) — A man has been charged with first-degree murder, with a special allegation of killing a public transit official, in the fatal shooting of Culver City bus driver Bruce Rodriguez after an argument over a bus stop. Prosecutors say he could face life in prison without parole if convicted. The case is prompting renewed calls to improve safety protections for bus drivers and riders across the region.

4. Alexander Schecter's Cause Of Death Determined (canyon-news.com) — Authorities have ruled that Alexander William Scheter, previously charged in connection with an alleged rape near Clarington Avenue and Venice Boulevard in Culver City, died by suicide at his Santa Monica home. The medical examiner cited mechanical asphyxia and neck compression, and police say no foul play is suspected. His death halts a case that had raised serious safety concerns for Culver City and UCLA-area residents.
