Love And A Laptop: LA County To Issue Marriage Licenses Online
Because a pandemic can't stop love, Los Angeles County on Monday began issuing marriage licences again via videoconference.
LOS ANGELES, CA — In a sign that life, and love, goes on even during a global pandemic, Los Angeles County will resume issuing marriage licenses for the first time in two months. However, in the age of social distancing, the process is now online.
The Registrar-Recorder/County Clerk closed all of its offices to the public March 16 with the coronavirus shutdown. But the office has been working to implement videoconferencing following an executive order earlier this month by Gov. Gavin Newsom allowing marriage licensing to be done remotely.
To make an appointment for services through the video conferencing system, one or both individuals must meet the following criteria:

- one individual must be a resident of Los Angeles County;
- both individuals must be in the same place within California;
- both individuals must have valid government identification;
- must have a device with video/audio capabilities such as a desktop or laptop computer, tablet or phone;
- must have an Internet connection.
The county will post information Monday on how to make an appointment for marriage licenses on its website at https://lavote.net/home/county- clerk/marriage-licenses-ceremonies/apply-for-a-marriage-license/apply.
