AAII-Silicon Valley: Computerized Investing Meeting

The Computerized Investing-Mechanical Investing Group discusses how to use algorithms, programs, tools and spreadsheets in investing

The AAII Silicon Valley Computerized Investing-Mechanical Investing (CIMI) Group discusses ideas on how to use computers in investing. The group has a definite mechanical investing flavor, focusing on rules, algorithms, programs, and computerized investing tools of various flavors.

Typical CIMI Meeting Topics and Agenda include:

  • Introduction, General Administrative Items
  • Updates on discussions/postings since the last meeting
  • Presentation(s) focusing on one or more of the following topics:
  • --- Recent topics from AAII (e.g., from the AAII Journal, Computerized Investing, SI Pro, etc.)
  • --- Stock, ETF Strategy review, back test results
  • --- New Timing and Stock Strategy Simulation Results

For example, in our July meeting:

  • We kicked off with a review of papers, articles, etc. that had been posted at the CIMI board. July, for whatever reason, had a large number of articles, postings, videos, etc. to go review and discuss.
  • We then had a short discussion on ETF bid-asks spread and what you can expect to pay depending on how small an ETF you invest in.
  • We then had an extended session on Prediction Valley (PV) trading results. Both Steve L and myself contributed what our analysis and trade results have been. Rich M presented his study on PV's track record vs. always going long, or short, on every earnings day. We were fortunate that Payou, CEO of the company behind the PV tool, joined us for dinner and discussion.
  • We finished up with a brief review of the mid-year tracking algorithm performance.

If this sounds interesting come join us for our next CIMI meeting on August 4th at Holder's Country Inn, 998 S. De Anza Blvd., San Jose, CA 95129. Map:http://tinyurl.com/z4599o8 Dinner orders start at 6:00 PM and the meeting begins at approx. 6:30 PM. Hope to see you there!
