Community Service-Learning and Cross-Cultural Ministry at St. Jude's

Kevin Book-Satterlee will speak at St. Jude's about Community Service-Learning and Cross-Cultural Ministry on Sunday, May 1, 9:15-10:15 am

Kevin Book-Satterlee will speak about "Community Service-Learning & Cross-Cultural Ministry" and Avance at St. Jude's Community Forum on Sunday, May 1, 9:15-10:15 am in the Parish Hall. Childcare provided.

Christians are called to engage their world. They are involved in mission, community development, and many other things commissioned by the motivation of loving God and loving their neighbor. However, not all Christians have the best reputation in their posture engaging the world. Especially when serving cross-culturally, one must come to know and understand the context; they must also bring the heart of God and skills necessary to partner with the local community or organization. Avance, using the principles of holistic mission, is a program for young adults
modeled after service-learning pedagogies that help form contextual and cross-cultural awareness, develop skills and abilities applicable to the needs of the community (and often directed by the community), and facilitate spiritual formation for effective Christian cross-cultural engagement.

This forum will touch on Avance's pedagogical and missiological principles and how its format works to develop the Christian young adult. It will also discuss the new opportunity that the Book-Satterlee family has to launch a second site in Southern Spain.
