Santa Clara Valley Hit With Record-Breaking High Temps Sunday
Breaking: In one location, the heat broke a record set more than 90 years ago, according to the National Weather Service.

SANTA CLARA VALLEY, CA -- As much of the San Francisco Bay Area sizzled under high temperatures Sunday, the heat broke previous records set in four locations, two of which were in the Santa Clara Valley, according to the National Weather Service.
The high temperature of 97 degrees Sunday in San Jose broke a record set more than 90 years ago on July 16, 1925, when the temperature reached 96 degrees in San Jose, a report generated by the National Weather Service San Francisco/Monterey Bay Area showed.
Meanwhile, at Moffett Field Sunday, the high temperature of 99 degrees broke the previous record of 86 degrees on July 16, 1984.

Elsewhere in the Bay Area, San Rafael's 97-degree day tied with a record-setting 97 degrees experienced on July 16, 1988. A high temperature of 87 degrees at Oakland Airport also broke the previous record of 86 degrees -- set on July 16, 1949.
Following that scorcher of a Sunday, the Bay Area was getting some relief from the heat Monday.

"A cooling trend will begin today and continue into Tuesday," Bay Area NWS forecasters said. "Temperatures will then settle near normal for the rest of the work week. With a deepening marine layer over the next few days, look for a return of night and morning low clouds along with patchy fog at times. Modest warming is expected next weekend."
