Active-Shooter Training Planned At Danville School

The "active-threat" exercise will involve police, fire and emergency-services crews.

DANVILLE, CA – The Danville Police Department will conduct an "active-threat" training on Aug. 9 from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Del Amigo High School at 186 Del Amigo Road, the agency said today.

"Active-threat training allows the Danville Police Department to update and refine the skills needed to provide the community with the highest level of service possible," the department said. "It is an important event that unites the school district, fire/EMS and police, so that during a real-life, active-threat incident, we are able to work efficiently and effectively with each other to save as many lives as possible."

The campus will be closed to pedestrians and vehicles during the exercise, and police want residents and visitors to know that, during the training, they are asked to not attempt to communicate with participants, and as officers will engage in campus scenarios involving intruders or active shooters, numerous patrol cars and emergency vehicles will be at the school.

"Volunteer role players will be on scene, acting as victims, staff, or intruders," the department said. "Police officers will engage in several scenarios which may involve loud noises and tactical responses. Officers will use ‘simulated ammunition’ (small paint balls) in the training exercise."

The exercise is not expected to affect area traffic, however, parking on Del Amigo will be off limits the night before and during the event as space is needed for ambulances, fire trucks, police vehicles and volunteers' cars. Signs will be posted as a reminder the day prior to the event.
