680 Water Polo Teams Win Gold in Southern California

LOS ALAMITOS, Calif.,Teams from San Ramon Valley based 680 Drivers Water Polo Club U10 CO-ED AA and A teams, U12 Girls and U14 Boys and Girls took home the Gold at the Internationally recognized Winterfest Water Polo Tournament this past weekend in Orange County. The U10 boys were lead to victory by Head Coach Taylor Herman as they went undefeated and faced local rival Lamorinda Water Polo Club in the finals. The U12 girls also went undefeated conquering Santa Barbara in their championship finals with a 12-11 win in the final seconds of the game. Both the U14 and U12 girls are coached by Tony Tovani and Head Coach Todd Halvorson who was recently awarded Developmental Coach of the Year by the USA Water Polo Association. The U14 boys were led to victory by Head Coach Matthew Mundelius.

The International Water Polo Club (InterWPC) announced that the 10th Anniversary, internationally recognized WINTERFEST Water Polo Tournament drew some of the highest turn-out to date, including over 3,500 players, 10,000 event participants and tens of thousands of spectators from both the U.S. and international countries.  Since its founding 10 years ago, the WINTERFEST Tournament has grown to include U.S. Olympic as well as international participants and even internationally recognized celebrities. 

Events for age groups ranging from 5 through 18 years ran from 2/8/2013 through 2/10/2013. Competitions were held at a variety of pools around Orange County and Los Angeles County.

The International Water Polo Club was originally founded as the Los Alamitos Water Polo Club (Los Al WPC) and initially focused on local Southern California water polo events and activities.  Over the years, the club has grown to international status and recently changed its name to reflect national and international level events and players.
