This is the first year that the census has been conducted online. Officials worry that this change could lead to an undercount of the population.
The census has been administered via mail in previous years. This year nearly all California households received an invitation in the mail with instructions on how to complete the census online. People may also elect to respond by mail or over the phone.
Participation in the census is mandatory. Haven't responded yet? Learn how to do so here.
