Danville Students To Spend Spring Break Building Homes In Mexico

Hundreds of students will help build 15 homes for those in need.

DANVILLE, CA — More than 260 students from the Community Presbyterian Church will spend their spring break in Mexico 15 building homes for those in need. The middle school and high school students, who are from several Tri-Valley high schools and middle schools like San Ramon Valley Christian Academy and Los Cerros, also participate in the church’s Wildside youth group. This is the eleventh year the student ministries will partner with Amor Ministries to help build the homes.

Grant Stedman, an eighth grader who attends school at Los Cerros but is part of of local Alamo-Danville Boys Team Charity and CPC’s student ministries, is part of the group headed to Mexico. His two older sisters participated in years past. Stedman shared his thoughts about attending.

“I’m excited to help people that are struggling to find a good place to live and help their family.”

What if you didn’t have a home to live in?
“I’d feel very sad because I wouldn’t be able to live like a family that has enough money to have a house.”

How do you think the kids feel that don’t have a home down there?
“If I were a kid that didn’t have a roof over my head, I would not feel protected. I wouldn’t have the warm feeling you have of being inside.”

You volunteer in other organizations - why do you think volunteering is important?
“It’s important to give back so you can make other people that are not as fortunate as you feel good about themselves and help them know that other people care about them.”

What are you hoping the families will experience as a result of your work?
“I’m hoping that the families feel happy and joyful about what other people can do for them and that we make a big impact.”
