Injured Hiker Trapped In East Bay Ravine For 36 Hours

The hiker, who had a broken ankle, was finally rescued by helicopter after a 12-hour search, East Bay Regional Parks officials said.

DANVILLE, CA — A hiker was trapped for roughly 36 hours after falling down a ravine, according to the East Bay Regional Parks District.

On Sunday, March 22, EBRPD police and firefighters responded to reports of a missing hiker in Las Trampas Wilderness Regional Preserve. The victim had reportedly fallen down a ravine and suffered a broken ankle, and had no cell phone. EBRPD authorities and the Contra Costa Search and Rescue team searched for 12 hours before the hiker was located. A CHP H30 helicopter helped haul the victim out of the ravine.

The victim is currently recovering from their injuries.
