DANVILLE, CA — Karen Stepper was selected to serve as Mayor of Danville for the upcoming year at the 42nd Annual Mayor’s Installation and Community Service Awards at the Village Theatre on Tuesday, Dec. 5.

Stepper has served on the Town Council since 2002, and served as mayor in 2006, 2011, 2016, and 2020. She holds a number of leadership and volunteer roles, including as chair of the Contra Costa County Mayors Conference, Director/Campaign Chair 2012 Veterans Building, and as board member for the Museum of the San Ramon Valley, the San Ramon Valley Historical Society, and more.

In accepting the gavel, Stepper said she wants to find new ways to “light up” downtown Danville.

“We are an active sports town with concerts and great playgrounds and fun car shows,” she said. “Now we are challenged to find more creative and inclusive ways to bring more people, families and crowds back to our downtown. We want you to make Danville the place to meet up, whether it’s for restaurants or for activities, because that’s what our stores and restaurants need, and that’s what you enjoy - making the character of Danville. I’m hoping that as a coalition and community, we will find new ways to make this happen - to light up the night. We want be safe and inviting and have people going to restaurants both day and night in this community because we have so much to offer, so I’m hoping you’ll be part of that going forward.”

She asked groups and residents to contact her at any time to discuss ideas and challenges.

The ceremony also recognized outgoing mayor Robert Storer, who completed his third mayorship. “I’m proud and grateful and humbled to stand here before you allowing me to be mayor. I do pinch myself every morning when I wake up. I can’t believe I can help be a small part of the Town of Danville. This was my best mayorship ever,” Storer said. “This Council is built on leadership, honesty, trust, and good, ethical behavior. We make decisions not because they’re easy, but because they’re right, and we will continue to make good decisions on behalf of this community.”

Councilmember Dave Fong was named vice mayor.
