Pothole Shuts Down One Lane of I-680 in Danville

The pothole opened up in the far left lane just south of Sycamore Valley Road East. At least one car had a flat tire from the pothole.

A large pothole on northbound Interstate 680 in Danville shut down one lane of the freeway Monday morning.

The pothole opened up in the far left lane just south of Sycamore Valley Road East, California Highway Patrol Sgt. John Carman said.

At least one car got a flat tire from the hazard. The driver pulled over on the shoulder of the highway, Carman said.

No injuries have been reported. Caltrans is currently making a repair on the pothole.

The CHP issued a Sig-alert at 10:43 a.m., which is expected to remain in effect until about 12:30 p.m. when repairs are completed.

The project will fix up, and in some cases replace, all eight lanes of the busy freeway from Rudgear Road in Walnut Creek to Alcosta Boulevard in Dublin.

The 12.8-mile Caltrans project is expected to be completed in spring 2012.
