Zhang’s 3-over-par 74 on a challenging Tilden Park Golf Course in Berkeley helped lead the Mustangs to their fifth North Coast Section team golf championship on Nov. 3. Behind Zhang’s 74 and Hailey White’s 76, Monte Vista posted a five-golfer score of 400 on the afternoon — five strokes better than the second-place team, NCS defending-champion Dougherty Valley-San Ramon. It was the Mustangs first NCS title since 2008 and it qualifies the team for the California Interscholastic Federation Northern Regional Tournament at The Club at Crazy Horse in Salinas on Nov. 10.

IN HER OWN WORDS: “I haven’t stopped smiling in about an hour now and my cheeks kind of hurt,” Zhang told reporters after the final scores had been posted. “But this is the happiest I’ve been in a long time.”
