T-Shirt Fundraiser To Benefit Local Health Care Workers

DANVILLE, CA — A local design student has launched a fundraiser selling T-shirts to raise money for health care workers at several nearby John Muir Health centers as they battle the coronavirus.

Normally, Casey Rickey would be off studying design at UCLA, but with classes moving online during the outbreak, Rickey is back at his home in Danville. He says with the extra time he's had back at home, he's decided to launch a T-shirt fundraiser to buy supplies for local health care workers.

Rickey says he's been designing and printing shirts since he was 12, and that this was a good way to use his passion for design to help bring his community together. "I think T-shirts are a great means to connect people and kind of bring us together as a community while were still separated and not physically able to be together."

He's designed a series of shirts that say "Danville Together" or "San Ramon Together" and emblazoned with a logo of a tree in a heart. For each shirt sold, Rickey says $10 will be given to buy personal protective equipment for medical caregivers at John Muir Hospital.

Rickey says he has a personal connection to John Muir: they helped care for his grandfather at the end of his life, and now he wants to repay the favor in their time of need. Many hospitals across the country have been reporting shortages of personal protective equipment necessary to protect healthcare workers from the coronavirus, including John Muir.

Rickey's goal is to sell 250 t-shirts and raise $2,500 for the centers.
