Tri-Valley Volunteers Make PPE For Coronavirus Responders
A group of Tri-Valley volunteers has made thousands of masks and gowns for Bay Area workers fighting the new coronavirus outbreak.
DANVILLE, CA — Just over two weeks ago, a Tri-Valley volunteer began collaborating with a medical worker to design face masks for those on the front lines of the new coronavirus outbreak.
Since then, thanks to a call for volunteers on the Nextdoor app, the volunteer group has swelled to 70 members, delivered thousands of items of personal protective equipment (PPE), and given itself a name: "Shield Our Heroes."
The group, which began in the Danville-San Ramon area, now has satellite operations in the East Bay, South Bay and Peninsula, KTVU reported. Volunteers for the group receive donations of supplies and use them to make cloth masks, face shields and plastic gowns, which have been in short supply across the nation.
