By now you've probably heard that the on Sunday rocked it.
Perfect weather, live music, vendors with great prices and 500 or so of your neighbors with whom to shop. The only way it could be better would be to have twice as many vendors - a change I wouldn't be surprised to see in the next few months, given the community response.
As is always the case in Davis, of course, there are concerns. Downtown stores are protective of their parking, and, to some extent, of their sales. While I get it on the first count (although I biked, and I don't think I was alone), I don't agree with the second. For one thing, much of the merchandise sold at the flea market isn't the sort of thing you buy in dowtown Davis ( excepted.)

For another, and this is the real thing, you can't sell a stitch to people who don't come to your store. I went downtown specifically for the Flea Market, and I spent $15 there. Then, because I was downtown already, I went to and bought treats, and to (formerly Shuz on 2nd, formerly Kids' Shuz, now just super!) and bought a pair of Keens. Shoes which, if the truth be told, I had intended to buy at REI because they're a co-op and pay me a divdend at the end of the year.
So, to wrap it all up - because (and I'm sure it was plenty of work!) to set up the Davis Flea Market, and vendors took the trouble to get their stuff to the plaza, I had no trouble at all in taking myself downtown to shop.

We need, collectively, a whole lot more of this sort of thing. Go Davis!
