BLOG: Is the DJUSD School Board Listening to the Community?
Sheila Allen states the DJUSD School Board definitely listens to the community. Take this opportunity to provide feedback. Describe your experiences when you have interacted with the School Board.

In writing some random thoughts about the DJUSD School Board campaign on my campaign Facebook page, Sheila Allen responded to my thoughts with the following:
"Hi Claire, we have never had a chance to talk. Feel free to email me and we can sit down so you can know what I think about school issues and I can hear what you have to say. I certainly do not have all the answers but I do know that all of the current school board members do not all think alike and we definately listen to the community."

I responded with the following:
"Hi Sheila,
Having visited school sites and participated in candidate forums, I believe that many in the community do not share your sentiments. When the public attends school board meetings they expect to be heard and have their concerns considered. That hasn't been my experience, though. One of your colleagues on the board had the temerity to tell me that I didn't value education because he didn't agree with my comments. However, rather than describe what others have shared with me, I invite the community to post their grievances. I would also like to let the community weigh in on whether the current school board members definitely listen to the community. Here is a URL to watch past school board meetings:

In particular, I would like the community to comment on how the trustees respond to issues raised by the community. Do the trustees appear considerate and engaged? If not, then please describe what you see.
I've been at the Davis Farmers' Market virtually every Saturday, but no current trustees have ever come by to have a conversation with me about current school district issues. If you are at the Farmers' Market Saturday, I encourage you to stop by each of the candidate booths to understand each candidate's positions and concerns. I have enjoyed my time at the Farmers' Market immensely."
Please take this opportunity to inform the current DJUSD School Board about their ability to consider and act upon the community's concerns.
