New Kid on the Block
This is the start of a new beginning for a young new local to the town of Davis as she learns all about the town and starts UC Davis in the fall.
Greetings Davis Patch readers and locals!
I just recently moved to Davis to attend the university starting in the fall. I know students typically don’t move in until August or September, but I decided to get an early start and beat the rush of new students. This also gives me the chance to get acclimated to Davis before I start at the school.
While I’ve never lived in Davis before, I have lived in Northern California my whole life so the area is not so foreign to me. I had visited Davis as well as UC Davis before and loved the college town feel as well as the amazing reputation of the university, starting in my high school years.

I went to a community college for two and a half years after graduating from high school. When application time for transferring came around, I knew I wanted to go to UC Davis. To make a long-happy story short and happy, I was accepted and here I am!
Even though I had visited Davis before, I had no idea what I was in for when I moved here.

For instance, on moving day, in order to get to my new home, I had to go through downtown on a Saturday afternoon. I quickly learned that downtown is not the place to drive your car on a Saturday afternoon because it is positively brimming with cars, bicyclists and pedestrians. I hadn’t even reached my little abode on my first day and I had already received my first lesson about getting around in town.
I’m excited to learn more about Davis! All the restaurants, shops, entertainment and any other local secrets are just waiting to be discovered by this new kid on the block.
