PDA: The Public Dance Acts Challenge!

Linda Bair Dance Company is presenting "What Do You See?" a tour of dance and discovery through the John Natsoulas Gallery on June 16th at 7 pm. FREE ADMISSION!

Still basking in the joy and excitement of the Dance Dance Davis flashmob earlier this month, I am throwing down a PDA: Public Dance Acts Challenge!

In collaboration with the Linda Bair Dance Company, this Public Dance Act event has a higher degree of difficulty – not necessarily for the body, but for the dancing brain.

We are inviting anybody from the community who is up for the challenge to participate in a short chair dance at the Linda Bair Dance Company event, “What Do You See?” at the , 521 1st Street, on June 16th at 7 pm. I know that there are definitely some Davis folks out there who are up for the challenge.

This Public Dance Act will not be a traditional flashmob, but will be a smaller, more theatrical dance piece that will be one of many dance happenings occurring throughout the gallery on June 16th. To participate, people have to come to three rehearsals at the in the next three weeks to learn and practice the dance.

The event “What Do You See?” will be a tour of dance and discovery through the Natsoulas Gallery. Audiences will explore the gallery at their leisure to discover dance and performance intermingling with the visual art through out the gallery space. As the art of dance shines light on the movement in visual art and the visual art highlights the color of dance, audiences will find new meaning and fresh interpretations.

I am a longtime dancer with Linda Bair Dance Company and I started Public Dance Acts to share dance with as many people as possible by bringing dance into unexpected places. Dance in an art gallery is unusual and unexpected. But the collaboration is a more personal for me. Linda Bair Dance Company is my artistic home, so it’s like I’m inviting people to a big, delicious dinner at my home, sharing my favorite dance recipes. We are hoping to have 20-40 community members rise to the challenge and dance with us in this fun, quirky movement sequence.
