Quintessentially Davis: 5 Things You CAN Do in Davis
Don't know what to do in Davis over the Summer? Here are 5 ideas that will get you out and about this week.
Four years ago I moved to Davis from San Jose, a big city in the bay area. I was a freshman in college, and the change wasn't easy for me.
I missed my friends and my family, and Davis was so incredibly different from where I grew up that my initial reaction was to hate it. Oh how things change.
Four years later -- as a recent college grad -- the idea of leaving Davis can almost bring me to tears. I love everything about this place. I love that my idea of traffic is being three cars away from a stop light on Russell Blvd. I love the Davis farmers' market, I love the brownies as Zia's Deli, I love the SPCA thrift store.

This list could go on forever. So when I saw the opportunity to write a blog for Patch I thought it would be a great way to document all the things the make Davis such a fantastic place to live.
Today, for the inaugural post of "Quintessentially Davis" I was inspired by another article on the Davis Patch site. The article includes quintessentially Davis laws like restricting the number of pigeons one resident can own. Which, for Davis, is probably a very necessary law. So in contrast here are 5 things you CAN do here.

1. Go gleaning. Use the Davis gleaning map to find free fresh food!
2. Attend a trivia night. There are probably more trivia nights per capita in Davis than any other place on the planet. You can go to Bistro 33 on Monday, Sophia's on Tuesday, Woodstocks on Thursday, and The Graduate on Sunday. I mean, what else are you going to do with all that college kid knowledge?
3. Go fishing. Make sure you have a fishing permit, and you can go fishing in Putah Creek. Although, I wouldn't suggest eating anything you catch, practice catch-and-release. If you're lucky you might see some great Putah Creek wildlife, otters!
4. Get a Thai Iced Tea at Sunrise Restaurant. By far the best thai iced tea in town; I know because I've tried them all. It is also very reasonably priced. You can also get a vietnamese sandwhich here for only $2.50. Score!
5. Lastly, go on a walk in the Davis Greenbelt. There are sixty miles of greenbelt in Davis and it is filled with parks, ponds, bike paths, public art works, and most importantly fig trees!!
