Quintessentially Davis: Figs!

The FIGS are here!

One of my favorite things about Davis is the plethora of fruit trees that grow around the city. Specifically there is an abundance of fig trees. And figs are delicious, if you've never had one I suggest you RUN to the greenbelt right now and find some. They are like little sacks of syrup growing on a tree.

For the past few weeks I've been walking to my favorite fig tree patch almost daily. Patiently waiting for the little green figs to grow into soft purple and yellow sacks. And everyday I was disappointed, no ripe figs!

But the time has finally come.

Yesterday, while on a walk by the Village Homes, my friends Chris, Jade and myself stumbled across several fig trees that were weighed down with big, juicy, ripe figs.

Needless to say, I was ecstatic. I ate figs until I could eat no more and then we napped in the park. It was a perfect quintessential Davis afternoon.

You can enjoy the fruits (literally) of Davis too! Use this gleaning map on Google to find fruit trees by you.

Or join Village Harvest, and help harvest Davis. Village Harvest meets once or twice a week to harvest public fruit trees around Davis. Harvesters get to take some fruit with them, but most of the produce is donated to charitable food organizations in the area.
