The Inside Scoop on Davis Patch's New Intern

Meet Jenah, our first intern!

Hello readers! As the newest (and first) intern at Davis Patch, I thought it important to introduce myself.

My name is Jenah Dawson, and I am a student here at UC Davis. Graduating in March 2012 with a major in communications and a minor in expository writing, I am still unsure about what I want to pursue after college.

This year on Christmas Eve my family hosted a holiday party.  Almost every friend, relative, and acquaintance that walked through our front door asked me the same question: what are your plans for after graduation? Needless to say, it was slightly frustrating having to answer that twenty times in a row. I am looking to experiment in a couple different fields: journalism (Patch), marketing, and public relations. I hope to find something that I truly enjoy doing.

One dream I have includes living in an area like Lake Tahoe or somewhere in Colorado, with a dog and a job in events marketing and public relations at a major ski resort or event company.

I grew up in Novato, Calif., a small town in northern Marin County that reminds me quite a bit of Davis with its small-town feel and easy-going community. Throughout my childhood I spent much of my time outdoors.  Hiking, biking, and skiing are just a few of my favorite activities.  The more time I can spend outside, the better.

Apples, tacos, pasta, and a good scoop (or two) of ice cream are foods that I LOVE. I also enjoy roaming the streets of cities like San Francisco, observing the many different cultures, communities, and interactions that occur, and taking as many photos as I can along the way. The world is such a colorful, beautiful place; it is important to capture it whenever possible.

This coming March marks another important step in my life: the end of my swimming career. My fourth and final season as a UC Davis Aggie swimmer, and this season’s team captain, will conclude my 17 years as a competitive swimmer.  Swimming is something that has played an extremely important role in my life.  It is hard to imagine the person I would be without it.

From this internship with Davis Patch I hope to experience writing in a more professional setting than is available in school courses, and to gain insight from the community and the readers of Davis Patch.

Enjoy!
