Parking officers will no longer “chalk” tires to enforce time zone parking. The use of LPR technology allows parking officers to enforce parking regulations more quickly and efficiently, which should result in more parking spaces being available for downtown customers, residents and visitors.

The new technology interfaces with an online portal, which means parking citation appeals and payment can be done online at: https://davisparking.t2hosted.... .
How does this affect parking permits?
Beginning January 2017, the LPR will electronically check license plates to determine whether a vehicle has a valid resident or commuter permit. If you’ve already purchased a parking permit for the year (September 2016 – August 2017), your license has already been entered into the system and you will continue to have a valid permit.
The annual permit will automatically expire on August 31, 2017 and a new electronic permit will need to be purchased.
If you have not purchased a permit, please visit https://davisparking.t2hosted.... to purchase one online (credit card only). If you would like to purchase a permit in person (cash only), visit the Davis Police Department at 2600 5th St., Davis.
